Serve

“For evil to succeed, all it needs is for good men to do nothing.” ~ Martin Luther King Jr.

What if the Ghandis, Mother Theresas, and Martin Luther King Jr.s of the world didn’t bother? What if they measured the issues to be irreparable, impossible, and lost causes? What if they didn’t try? All of the world changers did not begin as heroes. They began, no greater than you or me, with nothing but 2 hands, a bleeding heart, and the will to do something. They could not, and did not, stand idly by impotent and defeated. To witness evil, and not do anything about it, will slowly crush your soul. The world changers believed in goodness, justice, and humanity for all. And they fought for it. They had conviction and purpose. Most importantly, they had the belief that they could make a difference. And so they did. As can you.

You are here to serve the greater good. Everyone has causes that they are partial to. What moves you? What speaks to your heart? That is your purpose. That is your calling. The world needs more of that. It is your obligation to humanity to help make the world a better place. Champion that cause. It is not enough to think good thoughts. Do something about it. If not you, then who?

There are so many needs in the world. Pick a plight and make it your mission to do something. Stand for something. Live for something. Find a cause that speaks to your heart, and consider it your duty. “Perhaps you were made for such a time as this.” ~Esther 4:14. To help.

There’s a fable, about a boy walking a shoreline littered with helpless starfish washed up by the tide sure to die. One by one, he saves them, throwing them back in the ocean. Onlookers point out the overwhelming odds against him. Thousands of starfish along miles and miles of beach. A hopeless endeavor. “You can not possibly make a difference.” they say. Yet he is not discouraged. He picks up another star fish, throws it back into the surf, smiles and says “I made a difference for that one.” ~Loren Eisely.

You don’t have to do a great big hero thing. You have no grandiose moves to make that can save the world. All you can do is work within the confines of your own being. You can do the immediate good deed in front of you. You can make a difference for that one. “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” ~Jane Goodall. You can only do what you can only do, and that is all that is expected of you. Do your part. And that is enough. No matter the overwhelming odds.

“All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.” ~St. Francis of Assisi

The world needs your light. The world needs you to do something. Act. Serve. Share your knowledge, your talents, your testimony. What can you give of yourself for the sake of humanity?  Contribute. “You can always give something, even if it is only kindness.” ~ Anne Frank. Share your gifts. “To whom much is given, much shall be expected.” ~Luke 12:48. Donate. There are countless amazing organizations that require funding and resources to continue to do their good works. “Every dollar you spend…or do not spend.. is a vote you cast for the world you want.” ~L.N. Smith. Put your money where your mouth is. Support causes you believe in. It is the least you can do. And it matters. It all matters.

Every time I hear this song I think of you Brandy

Max Oazo ft. Camishe – Supergirl (Original Mix)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnywjbkPsOA

You can tell by the way, she walks, that she’s my girl
You can tell by the way, she talks, she rules the world
You can see in her eyes, that no one is her chain
    She’s my girl, my supergirl

And then she’d say, “It’s okay”
“I got lost, on the way, but I’m a supergirl”
    And supergirls don’t cry
And then she’d say, “It’s alright”
“I got home, late last night, but I’m a supergirl”
    And supergirls just fly

    But I’m a supergirl.

And then she’d say, that nothing can go wrong
When you’re in love, what can go wrong?
Then she’d laugh, the night time into day
    Pushing her fear, further along

And then she’d say, “It’s okay”
“I got lost on the way, but I’m a supergirl”
    And supergirls don’t cry
And then she’d say, “It’s alright”
“I got home, late last night, but I’m a supergirl”
    And supergirls just fly

    But I’m a supergirl.
    A supergirl.
She’s sowin’ seeds, she’s burnin’ trees (sets someone’s heart on fire, but tears their heart out right after.)
She’s sowin’ seeds, she’s burnin’ trees
    Yes, she’s a supergirl,

    Yes, she’s a supergirl
    A supergirl
She’s sowin’ seeds, she’s burnin’ trees
    She’s sowin’ seeds,
    Yes, she’s a supergirl

    Don’t stop writing Brandy! You’re a “Supergirl”.
