Tribe

“You are who you are by virtue of the company you keep.” ~ T.B. Joshua

We were so very fortunate to have Forever Growth’s Rose back to visit for a week!! Her being back, and all of the get-togethers, made me reflect on the value of my tribe. I am honored and grateful to have so many beautiful, amazing, strong, and loyal people in my life.

There is a concept that “You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” ~Jim Rohn. Who you surround yourself with is important. They have a powerful impact on your attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Its projected that the people you habitually surround yourself with can determine your success or failure in life. So this concept begs reflection of who you surround yourself with. Who is affecting you? What degree of impact are they exerting on your life? Is your tribe for your betterment…or your detriment?

You want to surround yourself with people with attributes you respect and admire. Does your tribe have the qualities that you wish to embody yourself?…. Genuineness, integrity, loyalty, goodness, grace, generosity, forgiveness, love, happiness… Are they kind to others? Are they passionate and ambitious and striving for better? Are they bold and adventurous? Are they always on the quest of self improvement? Will they make you a better person?

You need people in your tribe with common values. People who inspire you to dream bigger than you’ve ever dreamed. People who believe in you. People who encourage and uplift you. People who want what’s best for you. People who help you and invest in you. People who go hard for you in loyalty. People committed to your growth. People who challenge you to be the best version of yourself, and people who will love you when you’re not. You need people in your life who are willing to have your back, and build you up when you are down, and remind you of your worth. Everybody goes through hard times. Everyone falls short. I always say “If I can’t count on it, I don’t want it.” Life is full of ups and downs. You do not want people in your circle who will bail on you when the going gets tough….or worse add to your problems…

If you have people in your life who do not want what’s best for you, root for your demise, or who are eagerly waiting to kick you when you’re down, leave them. Dismiss them from your life as quickly and undramatically as possible. Or at least create as much distance and boundaries as you can. Indulging flaky, vindictive, abusive, jealous people will never contribute to your betterment, success, self respect, or happiness. “You are what you settle for.” ~Janis Joplin. Do not be afraid to lose what needs to be lost.

“Don’t chase people. Be yourself, do your own thing and work hard. The right people – the ones who really belong in your life – will come to you. And stay.” ~ Will Smith

The only thing you have control over is who you are. Be the friend you hope to have. Be a good person. Be in alignment with your integrity and you’ll attract the right people. Some duds creep in…it’s not a fool proof system. 🙂 When you’re a genuine and good person everyone will be attracted to you. Then it’s just a matter of time and discernment as to who you choose to keep in your tribe and allow to have influence in your life. I hope you choose to surround yourself with good people who bring out the best in you. I hope you choose people who will bring goodness and sunshine and magic into your life. I hope you choose people you can always count on. And when you are fortunate to have such amazing people in your life, I hope you treasure them and always do the same. Tribe code. 🙂
